Rules
- Contest is open to all members of CUPE in Alberta. The person who took the photo is considered the contestant and must be a CUPE member.
- Limit of ten entries per member.
- Deadline for entry is March 1st 2010.
- Photos can be entered in any colour, black & white, digital or hard copy.
- To enter, send your pictures to Lou Arab, Communications Representative, larab@cupe.ca or by mail - #410, 10525 170 St., Edmonton AB T5P 4W2.
- Photos can be entered into any of the following three categories:
- CUPE at work: pictures of CUPE members at their job site doing their jobs.
- CUPE in the community: pictures of CUPE members in their community.
- The lighter side of CUPE: any funny picture that involves CUPE or a CUPE member in some way.
- Photos can be entered in more than one category (but can only win in one category).
- Photos that do not fit into one of the above three categories will not be entered into the competition. (Please note, photos of members at meetings or conventions - unless humorous in nature – do not qualify).
- Each entry should include the following information:
- Contestant’s name, local, phone number and email address.
- Which category or categories you wish to enter.
- The caption or title you wish to give to the photo. (25 word max).
- Photos become the property of CUPE, and can be used and reproduced by CUPE as it sees fit.
- Photos will be displayed on the CUPE Alberta website (www.alberta.cupe.ca as they are received. They will also be displayed at CUPE Alberta’s convention, March 25-27, 2010 in Lethbridge. Prizes will be awarded at convention.
- It is assumed that contestants have acquired the permission of subjects to be photographed. If CUPE is contacted by subjects indicating they did not consent to the photograph, the photo will be disqualified.
- Photos will be judged by a panel of CUPE Communications Representatives.
- Criteria for judging will be:
- Technical: how clear is the picture, is it well lit, is it sharp, are the subjects visible, can you tell what is happening?
- Artistic: does the picture tell a story, is it aesthetically pleasing or compelling in some way?
- Each category will have a winner and runner up, with one overall ‘best picture’ prize.
- Prizes:
- Category winners – $150
- Best overall picture – $500
- Photos that do not adhere to the CUPE Equality statement (i.e. lewd or degrading) will not be entered.
