LETHBRIDGE – Edmonton Strathcona MLA Rachel Notley used her speech to convention delegates to outlined a long list of broken promises made by Premier Ed Stelmach.
On a range of issues ranging from long term care, to education to royalty rates, Notley accused Stelmach of breaking promises and ignoring the needs of working Albertans.
“Ed Stelmach promised 600 new long term care beds. Ed Stelmach broke his promise.”
Notley said Stelmach’s ‘biggest whopper,’ his promise to collect a fair share of oil and gas royalties, will result in cuts to public services.
“The decision to give back $750 million dollars per year to the oil industry is a choice. And it is a choice with consequences,” said Notley. “Without revenue from the oil and gas sector, public services for average, everyday Albertans will deteriorate to the point of near destruction.”
Notley outlined the NDP position on a number of issues, including education, temporary foreign workers, health care, and childcare.
“Alberta has over 115,000 children under the age of 5 with working moms. Yet there are only 35,000 child care spaces in the province. And the cost for child care in Alberta? Alberta’s fees are amongst the most expensive in Canada.”
